Back in 2020, Chinese influencer Duan Hongnan was electrocuted to death while fishing at a private pond. Two years later, his mother has filed a lawsuit against the local power company, seeking damages of up to 1.21mil yuan .
After filing the lawsuit, Hongnan’s mum spoke to the media again, sharing more details on how his death occured. As it turned out, Hongnan’s fishing rod, which measured 5.7m, had accidentally made contact with the live electricity cables that were suspended about 5 to 6 metres above the pond. After his passing, Hongnan’s mum sought legal advice, and realised that the fishing pond was not allowed to have such high-voltage power lines.
Hongnan’s mum shared that she was unable to ascertain whether the power lines were built first, or if the fishing pond was built first. Nevertheless, she believes that the power company should be responsible for the management of their power lines, as well as adhere to local regulations to eliminate possible risks near their lines.
