Crowley denies allegations in response to sex trafficking lawsuit

sued the Jacksonville-based logistics company, saying she was raped by her boss while on a business trip to Jacksonville. Treminio said in her suit that she was was made to go on the trip despite having made a sexual assault complaint against her boss, Juan Blanco.

While Judge Marcia Morales Howard threw out several counts in the lawsuit, she allowed Treminio to continue suing the transportation company on a count of sex trafficking and of labor trafficking.Crowley also states in its response that Treminio’s complaints should not be considered by the court because the allegations came after she was terminated from the company. Treminio says she was fired because she had reported the rape to Crowley.

In her lawsuit, Treminio said she was fired after she spoke about her trauma to a psychologist. The company says in its response that she failed to obtain medical treatment and that any mental distress she encountered is “unrelated to the actions of Crowley and/or its agents.” Howard has agreed to Treminio's request that pre-trial deadlines be extended by 90 days, which pushes the deadline for discovery to July and would lead to a trial in February 2024.
