Finance Minister Toews promises 'no surprises' in spending at Edmonton Chamber of Commerce event ableg abpoli

Speaking to reporters, Toews said the budget released last week represents the government’s entire fiscal plan.

NDP Opposition municipal affairs critic Joe Ceci told Postmedia Tuesday he is skeptical the minister was being up front about the fund, expressing concern the government might draw cash from it before the election and use it to make future vote-buying promises. “We are cautiously optimistic about the fund. We definitely want to understand how it’s going to work. We’re not sure there was a necessity for an additional fund, but at the same time, we’ve got to go through it with our experts and our broader business community to understand both positive and negative effects,” she said.and members were pleased the province plans to introduce fiscal responsibility legislation restricting deficits.

“I do believe that there’s a lot of system capacity investments, and so that will affect and positively impact our downtowns even though that direct funding is missing,” she said.
