San Antonio police arrested a man who they say stole brass bullet shells from one of their facilities and sold them at a recycling business.

Shawn Kevin Mchazlett, 33, is facing four counts of theft of aluminum/bronze/copper/brass, a state felony, records with the Bexar County Jail show.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, SAPD noticed that brass bullet shells were taken from an unnamed SAPD property on March 3. The shells had been left in baskets, but those baskets were missing.When officers went to metal recycling businesses to investigate the thefts, they learned that Mchazlett sold 41 pounds of brass shells on Wednesday morning, the affidavit states.

Police said the brass shells were the same brand and caliber primarily used by the SAPD. They included several simulation shells used for training.Mchazlett was arrested on unrelated warrants and later confessed to the theft, the affidavit states.A warrant for his arrest was issued on Wednesday and he was booked into the Bexar County Jail. He is also facing previous, unrelated charges of theft, drug possession, burglary and evading arrest.
