NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh plans to introduce legislation to 'rein in outrageous CEO pay' by increasing the taxes of companies where CEOs make 'excessive' profits.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh plans to introduce legislation to “rein in outrageous CEO pay” by increasing the taxes of companies where CEOs make “excessive” profits.

According to the NDP, Singh's bill would "be similar" to the U.S. Senate Tax Excessive CEOs Pay Act that the party claims would have seen some companies pay significantly more if it had been law in Canada in 2021, including:RBC paying up to $200 million more in taxes. Singh on Tuesday mentioned several times the salary of outgoing Loblaw president Galen Weston. It was announced Tuesday that Weston would be stepping away from the day-to-day operations of Loblaw, while staying on as chairperson of the board of directors and CEO of its parent company, George Weston Ltd.

Are they going after Pfizer or just ones that fit a certain narrative so they can try to look good?

How about we increase taxes on kalistani terrorists leeching 6 figures off the tax payers?

I swear he repeats the same lib lines over and over again year after year. What a boring and exhausting politician. theJagmeetSingh None of your policies are any good!!!

How about they focus on reducing the carbon tax credit that is hiking up food cost

Whatever we pay this clown is excessive!

What about his excessive salary? I think he could easily cut it in half and still live.

Taxing “excessive profits” is theft. The government didn’t EARN the money, it just swoops in & “confiscates”it. Canada is not a communist or fascist country, but NDP is a communist party. Liars & thieves! The govt can’t even manage the taxes it already collects. TaxationIsTheft

How about the excessive pay and increases of useless MPs like Jagmeet Singh?

What a genius

Are the NDP going to scrutinize government bureaucrats as well?

Sit down, Jagmeat, you bring nothing to the table.

Private sector CEOs pay taxes appropriate to their income so it makes no sense to add legislation to limit its just hot air. Now if he was looking to reign in the amout of public money paid in wages to those who sit in political office, I'd change my mind anout him.

“Excess profits”? How bout “excess taxes”?

How about excessive MP pay?

How about he start with his own pay!

Loser.

Harsh rules from the millionaire

What are 'excessive profits'? Who decides this?

Champagne Socialist demands his cut from free market

Communism at it's finest

Gov't deciding private salary ceilings and using punitive taxation. Communist.

That's one way to drive more companies out of Canada 🤡

It is really none of his business how much CEOs of private businesses make. Maybe he should focus on the OUTRAGEOUS pay/perks of politicians like him and trudeau. Or the 1000% markup on prescription drugs. If an item is overpriced, don't buy it.

Great idea BeatMeat. I’m sure they will be willing to pay “their fair share” as defined by you. I remember when France tried this

Say it with me *FLAT TAX*

Careful, everyone. You mustn’t notice Jagmeet’s $5k bespoke suits, fancy Rolexes, and large fleet of personal luxury vehicles He wants you to focus your anger way over there, at CEOs who run profitable businesses that create jobs for Canadians

The guy with the BMWs and Rolex watches? Try looking into theJagmeetSingh finances. I am sure we will find some shady arrangements there.

“Excessive”

What a joke! Some people get rich, others don’t. No story here.

How is it up to Parliament to set salaries for CEO's? Asking for a friend ...

No CEOs will come to Canada any more

theJagmeetSingh I'm going to make you a hero! Expose the Government for kidnapping kids. I'm grown up now with a fake name the government gave me at 17. Ask GOV 🇨🇦 for my real passport please. My birthland claims I never left because no passport ever issued to me ever.

Or do something Canadians really want. Bring down Trudeau and rid us of PM Pinocchio for good

Alright Jagmeet. Grooming voters for your party I see. Our education institutions break them down, and now, you do all you can to make being on top a chore & less profitable. Enjoy your filter bubble, country, when you push everyone away. I wouldn’t want to be stranded with Trudy

'Gettin it done'!

But votes in favour of an increase in the carbon tax which increases the price of everything. What a 🤡

Start with the politicians' pay packages. Why do we have multimillionaire politicians?

So he wants to control Capitalism and free markets. Hummmmmm!?!?

That the way to pay for everyone who want’s everything but doesn’t want to work for it

Define “excess profits”? This term should not even exist.

😂🤣😂🤡🌍

Welcome to the wonderful world of socialism...

I'm not opposed to the idea, but what determines 'excessive profits'?

This from a guy who wears a rolex, $4000 suits, very believable he is for hard working Canadians... Sit down....

This guy voted for c11. He is a criminal to the free people of Canada

These billionaires wouldn't notice the tax on their accounts. Why defend them? Lower tax for the working class majority

Tell you what. You should donate your income (what is left over after paying your income taxes at 53%, GST/HST at 13%, carbon tax, property tax, surtax…) to the Govt of Canada! It would help pay our $1.2Trillion national debt and $44Billion annual interest (not incl provinces).

That communism from some guy, that used to be related to a former party called the NDP… which they are not as they have joined and became Liberals. This is extreme left wing politics but no media will point that out will they?

Jagmeet pushing the Loblaws is Evil Empire narrative to deflect that food inflation is caused by Trudeau’s carbon taxes, money printing and other inflationary policies - the govt he’s propping up.

Then they will raise prices even more to cover the lost money. Government always thinks raising taxes fixes everything. Also stop giving all my money to other countries.

Yes. What a champion for Canadian taxpayers.

So…steal more through threats of lethal violence based on a subjective and politicized idea of ‘excessive’. How peaceful.🙄 TaxationIsTheft

What a dumb ass idea they will just raise there price onto consumers

He should just resign.

Welcome communism. Sad.

theJagmeetSingh needs to rein in his own outrageous pay, pension and benefits.

What about government greed? Singh loves to deflect from the government greed, I’ve never seen him fight in turning down raises, bonuses, or perks. He voted for the carbon tax and then voted to raise it higher. Who’s the greedy one, Jagmeet SellOutSingh

Hypocritical douchebag

He can get that done when he is PM. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Singh’s a joke as is CTV News Calgary Calgary , pair of jokers

Go Jagmeet!

theJagmeetSingh seems to only dislike the wealth other people possess.

theJagmeetSingh seems to only dislike the wealth other people possess.

The champagne socialist theJagmeetSingh in his bespoke suits ($3,000-$5,000) and two Rolex watches, an Oyster Perpetual Datejust and a Submariner, a crimson BMW coupe; and six designer bicycles. Backstopping the Liberals at every turn, thinks he represents working-class 🇨🇦😂

How much in raises did you get in the last three years?

What about the outrageous pay for useless government employees like every NDP member

Thank you Comrade for your unwavering contempt for anyone who has earned a high paying job. Why should anyone make more than anyone else? We are all equal, no? You show no hypocrisy as you drive your fancy car and wear your Rolex. Such a great example for the masses. Hypocrite

full out communism coming our way

What a joke! Fighting for Willy Loman in his Armani and Rolex while completely ignorant to the fundamental principles of our capitalist economy

NDP should just call themselves Communists already. They are in all but name anyways…

No public enquire into the Pierre Elliott Trudeau foundation, Jagmeet? What are you afraid of finding out?

🤣

….and ya think we have issues with not enough competition now, God help us if this clown ever gets the reigns!

What a loser

I would way rather this money be in the hands of an individual… not the gov’t! Money spent in the private sector is far more efficient.

When the government decides what is excessive you are in deep, you know what.

'Excessive' is a very subjective term. I consider a guy living off the public purse, wearing a Rolex and driving a BMW excessive.

He is such a jerk.

Is the line for excessive right after whatever were paying Jaggy?

Just withdraw your support & take power into your hands or continue as complicit in this. REDFMCALGARY ymediagroup

Filthy commie

No more tax.

Jagmeet should do little research on Rolex, I hear he's a fan.

Making Canada more socialism

Yay communism yay

Good. Taxes on the wealthy during the boomer generation were exceptionally higher and look where that got them... single-income, middle class families that were homeowners.

Chase all the head offices to the States to avoid taxes. Singh should look at Cuba to see how they made out.

Socialism here we come!

I’d vote in favour to rein in MP’s and the PM’s yearly raises 👍…. If the people are suffering so should the voted officials. Yet they continual to give themselves raises while increasing our taxes.

He has to clear it with his boss Trudeau first

When you increase taxes you increase cost of goods making it more expensive for consumers. Companies need keep shareholders happy or the company won’t exist

What he really wants to do is stifle innovation. The people he is after provide hundreds of thousands of jobs. All their employees pay taxes, the goods they sell are taxed, the goods they buy are taxed, their shareholders are taxed on capital gains. theJagmeetSingh think!

Singh is still confused, he should be taxing overpaid ceos not the companies.

Ya, let's push companies out of Canada........ great idea bud

And he hopes to do this how? Lots of talk when you have no chance of ever holding power

How about STOPPING the taxation of the middle and lower class into poverty? All he wants is more money for the government to spend on private jets and $6000 a night rooms.

Yes and those wealthy people can afford to just pick up and leave and go someplace with a more friendly tax regime. The wealthy aren't loyal to countries they can afford to live wherever they want.Dear fellow broke jokes if you make under $30,000 we pay 9% of the overall tax bill.

In other words, if you run a successful business, you will be penalized. Also, if you are penalized, you pass on the taxes to your products and cut staff. Also, politicians should be taxed more as they think it's okay to keep approving raises for themselves.

So, communism?

Start with CBC

The amount of “real” tax he may collect will not even be a line in the budget. Negligible impact. Fair marketing idea.

And the big companies will leave Canada.

🤣🤣🤣

This guy sounds like a real communist! We will all be equal, eat at community centres healthy meals prepared by party’s dietician and we will wear the same clothes. Does this sound familiar? (North Korea 🇰🇵)

When will we rein in outrageous politician pay?

Too bad theJagmeetSingh has less economic literacy than a potted plant. Doing his best to drive investment capital & corporations out of Canada so we get ZERO revenue. Knows less about economy than JustinTrudeau 'the budget will balance itself' Only here for pension $

How much is he worth again? That’s right. Millions.

That's rich coming from someone who hasn't even mentioned PWD in over 500 days!

This guy is a total creep

This guy is stuck in 50's policies

What he says doesn’t even matter why even post it

Who determines what's excessive? Why don't you become a politician in China, Cuba, Venezuela they have already chased away anyone who succeeds/ has drive or self esteem.

Hey theJagmeetSingh, tell me you don't understand business without saying you don't understand business. Jagmeet: 'Excess profits'

They should just increase carbon taxes further. Going to make this country un-investable

What is “excessive profits” anyway?

CBC/Radio-Canada’s president and CEO had a base salary range of $390,300 to $459,100 in 2019. The two executive vice presidents collected $275,000 to $411,278 and the five vice presidents garnered $250,000 to $411,278.

Liberals won’t go for it, then Trudeau can’t vacation at they’re extravagant houses,

I don't believe him

They tried this in New York. The companies all moved to Norway and took over 50,000 jobs with them. Rich people fuck, they dont get fucked.

You do realize that those business will always pass the cost of additional taxes unto the people right? Either that or they will just leave, at this point I wouldn't blame them.

Keep this guy away from all money

Inequality is what allows us to have room to grow as people and strive for better rather then all people staying stagnant and same

Stop giving this guy press. He is a big part of the destruction of our country!

Says the guy with a Rolex and BMW who green lights the triple carbon tax ….who listens to this guy anymore ? Seriously ?

what a hypocrite

Socialist hypocrite. He can start by sharing his own wealth.

Singh is destroy Canada with his coalition. And its not for Canadians, it’s for his own selfish reasons

Singh is a two-faced champagne socialist

Right out of the Communist Manifesto

Driving businesses out of Canada. Brilliant

His diaper is tooooo tight

No political parties including the NDP will ever go after the oligarchs wealth, because those are the very people that pay to keep them elected. They have had opportunities to do it, and yet still nothing.

He should lead by example.
