Amazon's growing fleet of electric delivery vehicles are helping power it towards achieving net zero by 2040, but the online retail giant admits long haul trucking, maritime and air transport remain tough emissions problems to solve.
Amazon's vans from Rivian have delivered more than 260 million packages to customers in the U.S revealed there are now 10,000 Rivians on the road in the United States, since launching in the middle of 2022. " largest ever order of electric delivery vehicles sends a signal to the whole industry, that this is real and we need vehicles," Kara Hurst, Amazon's vice president of worldwide sustainability said.
Dozens of computer scientists and engineers have been working on "every single aspect" of decarbonising Amazon's transportation business, vice president of transportation Udit Madan said, including its vast delivery fleet, shipping and air operations.
