Boettler has owned the North Canton Repair Shop on North Main Street for 33 years.“Then they {the city} come in September first and handed me 19 zoning violations,” said Boettler.
He says the violations range from greenhouses used to house the firewood he sells to the material his storefront is made of; many of the violations he believes don’t apply to his shop because he was grandfathered in to certain codes back 1991. But Boettler says he believes this goes further than violations, claiming his business is “targeted” to advance development in the area.
“Yes, definitely, my lawyers agree 100% with me,” said Boettler. “They’ve come up with a master plan for this area, which includes this business, and I’m right in the middle of this master plan.
The city says there is no push to get the business out, believing all the changes to fall in line with city code can be done without the business moving.“I’m at their mercy for a business that has been here for 33 years,” said Boettler.Copyright 2023 WOIO. All rights reserved.
