An Alabama lawmaker is working to restrict kids' access to adult material online. Republican Representative Ben Robbins wants pornography websites to verify the

ages of those watching, similar to a law passed in Louisiana this year. He plans to introduce an age verification bill in the upcoming legislative session, which he says will also require those creating adult material to verify the ages of the people in it. Robbins says it's too easy for kids to watch material they're not ready to see.

The Free Speech Coalition, the adult entertainment industry trade association, says age verification laws that have been introduced around the country are unconstitutional, ineffective and create major privacy concerns. Mike Stabile, FSC's public affairs director, says it drives consumers to use a virtual private network or VPN to evade age verification or access sites overseas that don't have restrictions.

"We're modernizing what we already do. We already, if you're going to go into a store and buy the magazine that's adult content, 'well, can I see your ID?' So we already do this in every other aspect, except virtually," said Robbins.
