Alice Springs 14-day curfew is the ‘last chance’ for authorities to fix crime issues in troubled town, business owner Darren Clark says
Footage circulating online showed people running and trying to kick in the doors of the Todd Tavern about 3.30pm that day, with one person seen throwing a rock at the window. "The reports are, I’ve just had a source give me a report from the CBD at midnight last night," he told AM Agenda. He said he had been assured by the territory government more police were on the way."The police minister contacted me this morning, assured me they are on the way. So we will have a bigger presence on the streets. I’m told the youth services last night, they haven’t seen the youth services so busy last night out on the streets.
"We can’t risk it for the town’s future, we can’t risk it for the safety of these youth and the future of these youth.Mr Clark suggested the curfew may have to remain in place for some time to maintain safety for the town's residents. "If we need there 58 police here full time, and we need a full-time curfew to actually keep these kids safe, keep this community safe, let's do it - why not?"
