Plans for a £1.7m investment in new youth facilities in Blackpool have got the go-ahead and will transform part of a deprived inner area.
It is hoped the investment will help continue work which has already successfully cut the amount of anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood. Coun Jo Farrell told the planning meeting: “It is a much-needed facility as the current building is ageing and our young people deserve better.
There will also be bathroom facilities including a shower room and laundry room, and various storage rooms. External shutters are included in the design, drawn up by architects Cassidy and Ashton, to protect windows and doors and could be decorated with artwork to enhance their appearance. The club has played a key role in helping reduce anti-social behaviour in the area following a link-up with Lancashire Police as part of Operation Centurion in Brunswick and Talbot wards.
