Half of statins patients don't hit 'healthy' cholesterol levels via SABCNewsOnline

Statins — a class of medicines designed to reduce cholesterol linked to heart disease and strokes — are among the most commonly prescribed drugs in the United States and Britain.

“Statins do work and are effective, but some trials have highlighted there have been variations in responses among some patients,” said Ralph Kwame Akyea, research associate at the University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. In total, 51 percent of patients had an insufficient drop in cholesterol even while taking the drugs.

“There might also be a role played by genetic variation. Not everyone responds to the medication and there are currently studies looking at the genetics of drug response.”Recent changes to prescription guidelines are set to see statins given to more than 55 million people in the US and 12 million people in Britain in the next few years.

Africa's news leader. The President of the African Development Bank has called on the United States to up its investment game in Africa as he made the case for the world’s largest economy to look beyond traditional sectors on the continent. Oh so now they want investment but they blame the 'west' for or the problems in africa Really? Why not African countries? One thing that realDonaldTrump does best and I like him for is inward economic development. _AfricanUnion should encouraging Africans to invest in themselves than calling for investment elsewhere. Copy realDonaldTrump policies and prosper. 😭😭😭 It this coming from the president of the highest instution in Africa😭😭 instead of calling on US. Africa should create an environment conjusive to grow their own investments and also create opportunities for its locals to be able to partner US on equal opportunities. 🙏
