When Elizabeth Bryant was house hunting in 2011, she was struck by the number of new builds with six or seven bedrooms. Unless you have lots of kids, she declared years later, “they are just ridiculously large. I wanted a more thoughtful look at how to use space.”
The house is split-level, with five finished levels and floating staircases connecting floors that are less than a full level apart. The second level, directly above the main floor, has three bedrooms with built-in dressers and blackout shades. There is one full bathroom on the hallway, and one bedroom has an en suite bathroom. The bathrooms on this level have floating vanities. A laundry room has a built-in counter and storage shelves.
