Mourners have appealed to the government to intensify law enforcement on perpetrators of gender-based violence.Disebo Mosupa’s passing has left family and friends wounded. They say Mosupa’s death should not be in vain. Her body was exhumed seven days later from a grave at an existing cemetery following a confession made by Lawrence Ncanca.
Ncanca and Mosupa’s boyfriend Andile Siyoko remain in custody after they abandoned their bail application.We lost a soldier. We lost someone who was very close to our hearts, she was my friend, she was a sister to me, she was everything. She has been with me through thick and thin. So losing her has really affected my life, in a huge way. I just hope that justice will take its course. Andile survived many things, survived jail time. I really hope that justice will be served for Disebo.
The family is still distraught. Her brother Mpho Mosupa says, “We are very hurt for losing our sister this way. But we know that she was a fighter and now all that is left is for the people who are responsible should account.”ANCYL president Collen Malatji adds, “We need to involve all stakeholders including churches because the issue of GBV we are living with it every day. We have monsters, women and children are no longer safe in their own houses, on the streets and everywhere else.
