Eight members of the Presidential Protection Unit are on trial for allegedly assaulting three people on the N1 Highway last year. Video footage of the incident went viral on social media, causing a huge public outcry over the conduct of the unit. Today, the defence mainly focused on the injuries sustained by the first witness during an altercation with the former VIP Protection Unit, where the defence alleged that those injuries have been exaggerated.
Defence lawyer Mswazi Makhubele also examined the first witness using images of the victim’s vehicle where he said it had a big crack on the windscreen.“What you cannot tell, is with the big crack your worship. I do not think we can say that is a crack. It’s a line in the picture. Your worship I’m entitled to the assumption because this picture has been presented before you. We need to know what it is intended for,” adds Makhubele.
