The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque will present six early Woody Allen films, from 'Take the Money and Run' to 'Annie Hall,' from Sept. 17 to Oct. 21.

“It’s very funny and, at the same time, quite touching,” Ewing said. “It’s a bittersweet romance a lot of people can relate to.”

“One person asked me if I had any misgivings about showing ‘Chinatown.’ I said, of course, I think about it, but on the other hand, it’s a great film.’” He also pointed out that repertory movie theaters across the country have kept showing Miramax films produced by Harvey Weinstein. But if there’s a line, where does the Cinematheque draw it? Ewing said he would never show a snuff film. He would also think twice about “Manhattan.” In that movie, which came two years after “Annie Hall” and is considered another Allen classic, the filmmaker appears as a middle-aged comedy writer who dates a teenage girl played by Mariel Hemingway.
