Wanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn is a blow-by-blow exploration of how the Nissan and Renault boss ended up being smuggled out of Japan to Lebanon beyond the reach of extradition.

Former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn during an interview in Beirut, Lebanon after fleeing bail in Japan..There’s never been a CE-woe like Carlos Ghosn. The globe-trotting automotive executive was a corporate champion who concurrently ran two storied car manufacturers, Japan’s Nissan and France’s Renault, until November 19, 2018, when he was arrested at Tokyo International Airport on allegations of under-reporting his eight-figure Nissan salary and misusing company funds.

Directed by the British filmmaker James Jones , this four-part documentary is an exemplary investigation of the career and possible crimes of Carlos Ghosn . It is detailed and patient – deceptively so. It asks you to observe and listen, to interpret the spin coming from adversaries. Instead of rushing to a verdict, the series gives you a sense of Ghosn’s outlook and claims of innocence even as new information emerges.

He is a polished media performer, and has given press conferences in Lebanon, where he’s living with his second wife and staunch public defender, Carole, beyond the reach of extradition laws. His interviews with Jones are lengthy and initially careful – he avoids certain allegations. But the more Ghosn talks the more he reveals, and when Jones finally does get specific Ghosn feels compelled to shape a conclusive answer.

There is a powerful map being sought and evil forces looking to resurrect the Empire, but the thematic sinew in the first two episodes is the frayed bonds between battle-weary women. “I go where I’m needed.” Ahsoka sagely declares, “not always” coolly replies her former apprentice, Sabine Wren .
