Taylor and Turner criticized each other publicly over the failed special meeting during a regularly scheduled meeting of the Waukegan City Council Monday at City Hall, with each giving the public their side of the story.

“Regretfully the meeting that was called was flawed in countless aspects,” Taylor said. “This agenda that was advanced did not have a single item that would have been legally actionable.”

Speaking earlier in the meeting before Turner made his comments, Taylor said alderpersons can schedule meetings with department heads on their own. Turner said later in the meeting that policy was not always true. “I’m focused on the people’s business, not politics,” she said. “Together we are working to increase economic development and prosperity for all, improve public safety and reform our codes and processes to make our city even more responsive to our residents’ concerns.”Lack of process was one of the reasons Taylor said the special meeting was a bad idea. During the administrations of former Mayors Wayne Motley and Sam Cunningham, they controlled the agenda.

“Process is transparency,” Hayes said. “Process is consistency, it is expectation and it allows people an understanding of what they can expect to see as the city makes its decisions.”
