Consumer staples is the third worst performing sector this year, but early earnings results show sentiment towards the sector may soon shift.

Consumer Staples, a group of dividend-paying stocks long-viewed as bond proxies, is among the worst performing sector this year.

Those headwinds have fueled a selling frenzy as investors look to reduce their exposure to the former Steady Eddies. The consumer staples sector -- The pandemic officially ended months ago, allowing a weary public to get back to normal living. That was great news for large swaths of the economy.
