– Authorities seized P40-million worth of pirated DVDs when they raided the city’s public market here last Thursday.

Joseph Arnaldo, special operations chief of Optical Media Board , said OMB personnel and policemen searched several market stalls and found the fake DVDs. Arnaldo said OMB operatives had been monitoring the market following information that counterfeit DVDs were being openly sold there. He said the seizure of the DVDs was the board’s way of protecting local movie producers who are losing millions of pesos to DVD pirates.Illegally copied movies are far cheaper than genuine DVDs, but siphon off revenues from local filmmakers.
