Mitch Glazier, the head of the Recording Industry Association of America, talks TikTok, piracy and the weight of public policy on the future of music in our latest edition of 'At Work'

What’s been the most unexpected thing about the job?

No — I encourage everybody to listen to music all the time. The RIAA is the biggest group of music lovers you would ever find in your life. We have interns in the summer blaring [music] out at their desks. We put together New Music Friday as well and we are constantly picking out who to highlight. I also have a 20-year-old son who is a musician and a music fanatic. My day is filled with music all the time.I have no problem admitting I love pure pop. It’s catchy, great [and] makes you feel good.

So I happened to be the guy in the chair when all these changes came about. Eventually I ended up at the intersection between politics and entertainment, which are probably the two things people talk about most at the dinner table, so what more fascinating job could you have?Oh, it always ends up, “Dad, have you listened to this?” Then we spend the rest of the dinner listening to my kid’s iPhone, or talking about music events, or talking about who I’m meeting on my next trip.

We also need to understand what’s happening in the tech space. TikTok is coming onto the scene now, for example. They now have a policy person in Washington and are looking out for their particular set of issues for short-form audio-video recordings.

There's nothing intriguing in a cover model with sharpening eyes looking like they are dangerous and bad releasing their old woman sound in a frail pug bodied whimper

We can't keep pretending to be better now. Like we are young here. The kids are old and have an old uag feeling before they arrived! Thinking like our aged friends are over for good. You need the primal heart and core of what they found for us in the past that isn't around now

We can't keep pretending to be better now. Like we are young here. The kids are old and have an old stake feeling before they arrived! Thinking like our aged friends are over for good. You need the primal heart and core of what they found for us in the past that isn't around now

Have fun! Make it funny like an animated zombie beaver cannibalizing the overrated consumer friendly focal pointers. There's no soul or word to be heard by any of those social centered narcissistic nail biters Make em lose their cool! Cry! And vanish for something incredible now

You can make hip hop lame first by accentuating the connect of hip hop artist to girl pop stars. And they are disposable and should always be replaced by new hot young girls now! Trash your girl pop legends. Even from 2 years ago

Lazy button pushing culture reflected in lame artists! Hip hop is nerdy! It's the last round of hair metal... I can feel it in them all. Weakness and ignorance

Kick all the phonies in the teeth. They make money... But who cares? A bold approach would be to destroy it all now! Find real artists that could record their music live in the studio. That's what could make you a legend now.
