Food and wine experts explain how tariffs on European exports could harm the reeling industry.

Aneff -- a managing partner at one of the country's top wine shops, Tribeca Wine Merchants in New York City -- has been steadfast in his work with the National Association of Wine Retailers, the International Trade Commission and other members of the business. The hospitality industry was one of the sectors hit hardest by COVID-19 shutdowns, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The industry shed 7.7 million jobs and of those, 5.5 million jobs were in the food and drinking service sectors."And the threat couldn’t come at a worse time, when most of these businesses have seen their sales absolutely collapse over the past three months. Even worse, the tariffs on wine inflict four times the damage to U.S.

Glad I left that shithole country 6 years ago. Here in Portugal all those things are inexpensive and oh so delicious. My U.S. social security pays for them.🇵🇹😍😂

Trump’s penchant for tariffs is against public interest. They are paid by Americans and hurt America. A double whammy.

Democrats like Pelosi and Her $24k freezers filled with gourmet ice cream are concerned about this-is normal people? Not so much.

So Christmas party will be potluck this year?

I’ll be fine. Feel bad for the rich folks consuming these imports. Man must suck ....

Bring it on and watch middle class voters abandon Trump and the GOP. Political caveats: don't mess with people's food - and religion.

They are just totally ruing the world.. because they themselves ate imploding. 🥴🥴 How can you call these pernicious vermin allies... I certainly don't.. 😡😡😡.

Nooooooooooooooo!😱

Awesome! Ever try to buy American jeans in Europe? Of god forbid a Chevy?

😭

To be clear: Tariffs the American people will pay and NOT the European producers. If you want to continue enjoying the wine, cheese, chocolates and other delicacies, YOU have to pay realDonaldTrump’s tariffs.

realDonaldTrump pooh-poohed criticism saying that along w/ not knowing the meaning of covid19 he also doesn’t know the meaning of FFGX the new Navy ships being built in Wisconsin. He surely doesn’t know French cheese that’s not even sold at KFC. It’s all Obama elitism to him

It is so funny that Trump thinks that France, Belgium, Italy and Spain will pay the tarrifs. Trump is as dumb as a rock. (Sorry for dissing rocks.) It is just incredible how stupid Trump truly is, eh. 🙄

You mean stuff rich people buy- who cares!

Well let us all hope that the very old man wins so later on this will be discarded.

And ole 'Stupid in the Oval' thinks that European Companies will be paying the Tariff's. Imagine that? He gives Corporate entities a Tax Break and then taxes the shit out of American Consumers! Are we winning yet?

Good. More for the rest of sane world.

I mean, this admin really fucks everything up.

TRUMP IS MAKING FOOD AMERICANS LIKE UNAFFORDABLE WITH HIS STUPID TARIFFS🖕

Ridiculous! So then the price goes up on the Italian wine I like.

Wait a minute. Our dear supreme leader told me the Chinese pay the tariffs.

Good!

One of the best decision I have ever made is investing on Bitcoins. Bitcoin investment is the feature of tomorrow, invest on it today and smile tomorrow I invested $2000 worth bitcoins and earned $15,000 in two weeks with the help a trade coach Mr Rene Contact abrantesrene

Why don’t you report on this?

what will the rich do without their snacks?

Good, about time they start paying their fair share

Well...since we have minimum tariffs for most everything from Europe...can’t really say it’s wrong...especially since everything from US gets a minimum 19% hit. 19% vs 1%? Sounds like it is a good way to try to recoup some of this tremendous outlay of tax dollars. 😉

We have excellent choices in all of the above made right here in the USA. Made by Americans for Americans. It is my greatest desire that our country once again becomes self-sufficient and need not import anything unless it just wants a variety.

Why is it that USA made products are subjected to tariffs!

Buy Canadian wine, cheese and chocolate sorry no olives.

I'm fine with California wine, cheese from Wisconsin, chocolate from Hershey, Pa and I'll just pass on the olives.

That sucks, especially if this is indeed just a small sampling of items. People shouldn’t have to eat American food products. Our farmers and ranchers are some of the absolute worst in the world and it’s not really fair to call the manipulated products they produce “food”.

More winning? GOP

So the Donald wants to increase the price of quality cuisine, he has no idea of how tariffs actually work FireTrump trumpyourefired

awesome

It’s getting pretty boring in the US 🙄🙂

Oh no what should us normal average Americans do..... 🤣😂 lol-lolly lol

Some things are just worth the money. The government gets it's money, Europeans get some money, The well to do, get lots of great things to offer as office gifts/christmas gifts/secretary gifts/ welcome to the neighborhood gifts. Belgian chocolates are divine and worth it!

Thats fine. We'll be ok.

All in the way the story is written, America is finally using Tariffs to level the playing field for America Workers.

There's a kid in Sudan who just lost both his parents. He's really sore about tariffs on French cheese.

Well, Brexot doesn't seem like the best idea anymore does it? And America is led by an adderall addicted 3 yr old. We are in a pandemic. There were locusts. A dust storm Lantern 🏮 bugs Murder hornets Cruise 🛳 ships of death The Artic is on FIRE 🔥

fyi, if you drink can drinks or you buy 6/12/24 packs of sodas. you are putting your lips on a myriad of different types of rodent feces. didnt cali ban straws? whether its poo on a can or poo on the streets. cali residents should feel right at home. PooLickers

Too damn bad! Europe should trade fairly. Wine from California and Australia and Chile and SA is as good as French. So is their cheese. Japanese whiskey is fabulous. And the selection of US bourbon and Rye is wonderful. Won’t miss EU products at all
