Newly formed pro-women advocacy group Women of SA wants government to take an unprecedented step and make it a criminal offence for companies to pay women less than men for doing equal work.
WoSA was formed by women across the broad sphere of the economy, said spokesperson Staff Sithole, who serves as corporate affairs director at Nkwe Platinum. “Despite constituting about 51.2% of the population and a majority of the workforce in South Africa, research by Stats SA has found that the South African labour market is more favourable to men than it is to women, and that men are more likely to be in paid employment than women, regardless of race,” said Sithole.
