The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is set to conduct this week a dry run of an online delivery service that aims to help small vendors and tricycle drivers in Muntinlupa City.

It took some time for Vice President Leni Robredo’s Community Mart project to start in Muntinlupa after its roll out in the cities of Quezon and Pasig.

The vice president previously reasoned the delay in the implementation of the app-based delivery service was caused by lack of venue for its operations.Residents in selected areas in Muntinlupa can purchase meat, vegetables, and other food items from the Alabang Market and have them delivered to their homes.

OVP’s online market is seen to minimize the influx of consumers in groceries and wet markets and avoid local transmission of COVID-19, while helping small vendors and tricycle drivers in their livelihood. Small businesses and the tricycle drivers are among those severely hit during the quarantine period due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In Pasig, Robredo noted the sales generated through the Community Mart is nearing the P10 million mark.Robredo, however, said the online delivery service in Quezon City remains suspended after staff members from the local government, including vendors at the Kamuning Market tested positive for COVID-19.
