This is a rise from the 1,000 jobs it said in July thatPret's stores have reopened as COVID-19 restrictions have eased, but the UK-based coffee chain, which employs around 8,000 people in the UK and a further 5,000 in other countries, has been hit hard by the pandemic.

The chain reported weekly UK sales of around £5.2 million in August — similar to its earnings in August 2010, when it had half as many UK stores.
