The Migrant Resource Centre in Tasmania is working with the state government and TasTAFE to get people from a migrant background into building and construction jobs.

Since he was a young boy, Tidiene Sacko has wanted to work in the building and construction industry.

Tidiene is now chasing that dream. He's about to finish an introductory course in building and construction with TasTAFE.The Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania has been working with TasTAFE and the state government to get more people from migrant backgrounds into Tasmania's building and construction industry.

Leila Gobus has a degree in Civil Engineering from Brazil. She's using the TasTAFE course to learn local regulations, and help her chances of finding a job."Australia is a beautiful country. I hope to settle here and my family here. Tasmania is attracting skilled immigrants, one of the areas is construction so I think it’s a good place."

"As an industry what's important for us is that we are doing everything we can, and we are tapping all sources of skilled labour to ensure that we have the boots on the ground to deliver that pipeline. Once the students finish the course, the Migrant Resource Centre will work with each student to help them find work.
