Baby boomers. Women with children. Low-wage workers. The pandemic has pushed nearly 4 million Americans out of the workforce, and some economists fear many of them won't come back.

expected. Between April and October the unemployment rate fell by more than half, to 6.9%, undoing more than two-thirds of its initial rise.the supply of people either working or looking for a job has declinedThe labor-force participation rate, or the share of Americans 16 years and over working or seeking work, was 61.7% in October, down from 63.4% in February. Though up from April’s trough, that is near its lowest since the 1970s, when far fewer women were in the workforce.

The supply of workers and their productivity are the building blocks of economic growth. A smaller labor force leaves fewer workers to build machines and clean tables, restraining the economy’s long-term prospects. “If we don’t get all the workers back, we can never have a V-shaped recovery,” said Betsey Stevenson, economics professor at the University of Michigan, referring to a quick and sustained bounce-back after a sharp decline. “Everybody should be worried about making sure that we don’t leave workers behind,” she said.

Good article, but let’s be clear: Covid didn’t push women out. The patriarchy did.

I work for a company with thousands of employees. Most are on furlough. My team of ten engineers will never be back. Many have found other jobs because they have mouths to feed. Others don't want to have managers mistreat them.

We're going to need some new innovations in how to gain productivity as we go forward. We are all socialists. The GOP is very socialist, just favoring its ISRD. We need fair and voluntary safety nets. =

国家如果能把心思放在防疫上,少撩事斗非,经济自然能快速复苏。

Donald Trump's reign of destruction, with mismanagement of the pandemic as his number one dereliction, will take decades to recover.

You should focus more on all the damn immigrants that are about to flood the nation and our jobs‼️🇺🇸

She’s wearing a V-neck. Nice.

The economy no longer matters as the stock market is the only gauge by which voters care about.

If Beijing Biden comes in we have no shot. We saw the economy under BarackObama

The Trump vaccines finally come through. — The U.K. became the first Western nation to grant emergency-use authorization for a Covid-19 vaccine, clearing a shot developed by Pfizer Inc. of the U.S. and BioNTech SE of Germany to be distributed within days.

Ask Mcconnell why he only supports the rich, and not the American worker.

anti-Marxismlist! On my opinion, the human society is running on these: 1 Technology define theoretical economic aggregate 2 Work define gross economy 3 Finance system define distribution of wealth from gross economy

It really is amazing that Trump’s entire base has managed to convince themselves that we’re living through an economic Miracle lol

The media in America is mostly dead. Today they resemble Russian Pravda. When I turn on the media (NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, and the like) I can only spend a few minutes watching before I have to change the channel before becoming nauseous.

But the point is what have these workers working on to attain a skill? If one thinks $7.25 will pay bills then it's a choice. Push yourself to work harder.

And with Biden announcing that he will not deport illegal aliens entering the country, those low wage American workers will never see jobs since they will be competing against people who will work for even lower wages.

Healthcare workers beg all to wear a mask: THIS is how to wear a mask...Fully covering your nose & mouth, & fabric should not be cotton knit or polyester, but 2-3 layers of tightly woven cotton. Should stay on your nose when talking. Designed by Seattle RN

don't worry. Now that Joe Biden is here, he's going to fix all that, especially for all the single moms who voted for him.
