Johannesburg - The South African Liquor Industry has asked for the suspension of its monthly obligation to pay R2.5 billion in excise duties to the South African Revenue Services due to the continued ban on the sale of alcohol under level 3 lockdown.
Due to the renewed ban which was reintroduced on December 28 - the liquor industry said that was impacting on jobs and livelihoods of those directly and indirectly involved in the sector. Detailing the effects of the ban, the industry players said apart from the damage to the fiscus, such restrictions also have a far-reaching negative impact on the country's already precarious socio-economic predicament and the industry's viability, saying there was no Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme for any of the SMMEs in the sector including taverns, restaurants and bars.
The government also announced the suspension of civil marriages at all the major Home Affairs offices including the application for new IDs and passports until February 15 while the country is battling the surging Covid-19 pandemic. Detailing the restrictions, Motsoaledi concurred with President Ramaphosa’s statement when he said on Monday that the Cabinet had decided that the 20 land ports of entry that are currently open will be closed until February 15 for general entry and departure.
sarstax Seems fair
sarstax I think this is a fair request.
sarstax Well done, why pay tax when there is NO revenue coming in
sarstax If you pay Tax, then you support the ANC.
sarstax Teach this incompetent MYANC government a lesson. Soon they'll be nothing left to loot. 😁😁😁
sarstax They must just stop completely. Why must governor just ban them from trading and still get tax from them. Comrades must feel, in turn SASSA will feel then people will see how incompetent this government is.
sarstax Taxes should be suspended the industry is getting no income, how can they afford the taxes?
sarstax Just stop. Rather pay workers with those funds.
sarstax Ha ha ha. This despot government refuses taxes for their coffers....this while they have no money for vaccines...SAS bailout...etc....salaries...SASSA will be empty soon....good luck to the 18mil voters...it's time to reap ur rewards
sarstax Don’t ask - just stop. Then let all those continually baying for a ban, wake up & smell the coffee.
sarstax They should ask for it to be written off indefinitely.
sarstax And fair to do so
sarstax Why ask Less for ComRats to steal.
sarstax Should think so. Why must ANC get the money? More money to loot and live the high life while THOUSANDS of their people loose jobs? Don't pay
The liquor industry had almost a year to understand its role in slowing the pandemic & to come up with a strategy to operate responsibly towards human life. What has it done?
About time the industries being affected by this lockdown start doing this. It's way overdue.
Which is fair, they are not making any revenue. The government should pay them now.
