of President Biden's proposal for the latest stimulus package, some people — including those who are among our most needy or vulnerable — are simply hoping they aren't once again left out completely.
These individuals have as many basic living expenses as anyone else — and in the case of college students, are often already taking on considerable debt just to meet their obligations such as tuition bills and housing fees. Regardless of their need or financial desperation, these people were excluded from receiving the $1,200 designated for eligible adults or even the $500 paid for dependents up to age 16.
There were opportunities to assist these overlooked Americans. Some previously proposed relief bills called for payments to adult dependents. The HEROES Act, for example,to full-time students up to age 24 and adult dependents. That aid package was passed by the House last May, but failed after then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to put it to a vote in the Senate.
