Ex-Australia Post boss Christine Holgate has been appointed chief executive of rival parcel business Global Express, one week after her non-compete period with the postal service expired.
A resolution to the months-long feud between Ms Holgate and Australia Post now appears in sight, with parties agreeing late last week to mediation to resolve their issues. Ms Holgate is seeking an apology from Australia Post, finalisation of her contract and no financial compensation. Christine Holgate has been named CEO of parcels businesses Global Express, a major rival to Australia Post.Ms Holgate, who will take up the new role in July, said she was excited to be back working in the parcels business.
“I am really excited about it and I want to look forward. I’ve spent six months having to look backwards,” she said on Monday. “I’m very passionate about trade and very passionate about e-commerce. This is a massive national infrastructure business and actually employs a lot of people in rural and regional Australia, which is another passion of mine.”Ms Holgate’s appointment was announced as a Senate inquiry prepares to hand down next Monday the findings of its investigation into the circumstances surrounding her controversial exit from Australia Post last year.
