The UK car industry has welcomed Nissan’s move, but warned that the UK will need more gigafactories to hit its electric car targets. Mike Hawes, the chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said: “Today’s announcement of new investment into battery production in Sunderland is great news for the sector, the region and all those employed locally.
