Seberang Prai City Council councillor Tan Chee Teong said out of 209 stall operators at the market, only 91 resumed their business yesterday.“There are an additional 97 stalls under the Apollo Daily Wet Market association and although 85 of them are allowed to reopen, only 40 resume business,” he said.
Tan and Ong distributing face shields to traders on the first day that the market reopened after a brief closure due to Covid-19 outbreak. Tan, who was present to hand out face shields to traders, said the market was shut down for a week after six positive Covid-19 cases linked to the market were detected on July 28.

“Although now reopened, many food hawkers still remain closed as they’ve yet to replenish their raw ingredients,” he said.“They will spend less time in the market and the ban on dine-in has also prevented people from gathering at eateries and near the food stalls.“This is good and crowd control is much easier,” he said.
