HSE boss Paul Reid had a €60k executive company car at home while being driven around by an army chauffeur in a separate SUV.The HSE paid for his company car, a BMW 530d X-Drive SE, which was valued at €59,385 and Mr Reid paid tax on that as a benefit in kind.
The BMW X1 jeep was one of nine donated to the HSE in the early months of the pandemic in 2020 by BMW Ireland. Mr Reid’s package is worth more than twice the Taoiseach’s, Micheál Martin, who got paid just under €212,000, for his round-the-clock job last year. Senator and former Defence Forces officer, Gerard Craughwell, was critical of Mr Reid having an army driver in a free car while also having one “in the driveway at home.”“The people at the top have everything they could want.”
Sinn Féin’s Mr Cullinane told the Mirror last night: “The head of the HSE is on a very generous salary.A spokeswoman for the HSE said: “The HSE purchased a BMW 530d X-Drive SE for use by the Chief Executive Officer.“The original market value that Mr Reid’s benefit in kind was based in 2020 was €59,385.
