Its CEO envisions a 22,000-square-foot facility under construction as one day filling orders for more than 1,000 prescription drugs.

As CEO of the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Co., Oshmyansky and his billionaire backer made a splash over a week ago when they declared they were open for business to disrupt big pharma.Their company launched as a cash-only enterprise selling 100 generic drugs at what it describes as discount prices by cutting out the middleman. It sells the drugs at a flat 15% markup and a $3 pharmacist fee.

“Our city must continue to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment in our communities,” said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson in a statement. ”The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company can serve as an important example of all three.” Employer-provided health insurance covers about 89% of retail prescription drug spending, according to Peterson Center on HealthcareA beam was lifted into place Tuesday at the site of the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Co. building in Dallas' Deep Ellum neighborhood.

“These are sort of small enough products that existing vendors don’t really go out of their way to look for great pricing,” Oshmyansky said. “We have very aggressive pricing that kind of beats everybody else.”. Cost Plus charges $36.60 for 30 capsules.
