I didn’t care what I had going on; my brother needed me, so I’m here.” Goldman says Morgan was brought on because he and Williams had always talked about working together but couldn’t get their schedules to align. “To fill Mike’s shoes is such a tremendous task, and it was almost as if he delivered these three names to us,” Goldman says. “They showed up for a real reason. It wasn’t about work. Williams” returns five years after its first season; Goldman says the long gap is partly because the show took a toll on the actor. “We lost a lot of the people that were featured on that show, and it affected him deeply,” Goldman says. “These were people that he kept in touch with after the show. For him it was about connecting with people and telling their stories in a compassionate way.
