Singers always say ‘Oh, every person can sing.’ I’m here to tell you, I did so much theater training, so much school and my teachers were so good at being honest with me. They were like, ‘You know, Shawna, you can act and you can dance, but you sure can’t sing.’ It’s very helpful when people are honest with you like that. So I am a big admirer of the human voice and people who can sing. To really do what opera singers do is a remarkable gift. It’s like being an Olympic athlete.

Family: Married to film actor Ebeneezir Nii Sowah, who spent part of his childhood in Ghana and is home raising their eight-month-old daughter, June James.Lucey’s second passion is nail art. “I always have very long acrylic nails that always have some very exciting nail art on them.” Lucey lived in Moscow for nearly five years and became fluent in Russian. She’s also fluent in Italian.Her grandfather was an Irish immigrant and when she was little they spoke Irish together.

She’s a “sneaker head,” with a vast Nike collection in her closet. How many pairs? “I can’t reveal that.”
