From left, Lori Martinez, Lola Martinez,10, and Don Lambert, from Gardeners in Community Development, discuss what plants are available at the Gardeners in Community Development booth at the White Rock Lake Farmers Market. The White Rock Local Market reopens this week to bring local produce and goods to the people of East Dallas, but it won’t be in the Garland Road parking lot it’s been in for the last decade.
The farmers market will open March 26 in the parking lot of White Rock United Methodist Church in the Little Forest Hills neighborhood, a stone’s throw from where it used to operate at Lake Pointe Church. Casey Cutler, executive director of Good Local Markets, says ideally the market would still be along Garland Road for visibility purposes, but their contract was not renewed by Lake Pointe Church, and they couldn’t find another location along the busy road.
So instead they’ll set up every Saturday at the new location on Old Gate Lane with longtime vendors like Jersey Girls Milk Co. and Leila Bakery. Cutler says they’ll have all of the popular items like milk, yogurt, grass-fed beef, chicken eggs, and duck eggs. And in the next few weeks, strawberries will be in season.
The market will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. until Dec. 17. Parking is available at the church parking lot or behind the building.
