previously expressed concerns that the cost of visiting Ireland will deter tourists from coming back again“The people who will pay the price for overcharging and charging prices that are far too high will be those businesses themselves as consumers vote with their own feet with the goods and services they buy,” Minister Donohoe predicted.
“And my message to those businesses that are involved in those kind of practices is, ‘Don’t come to the Government in a few months' time looking for help when your own pricing decisions have undermined the competitiveness of your business and undermined the competitiveness of our country.’”However, the minister rejected the idea that he should intervene directly in the car hire market:
“I can’t control the prices that private businesses charge for goods and services they make available,” he said.Main image: Paschal Donohue. Picture by: RollingNews.ie
Fffg have created this situation and runs right through our system
Make sure the new stock of hire cars are only electric.
This government will go bust before them I hope. They can splash the cash when it suits but won't address CostOfLivingCrisis
Sure didn't they learn from the best in the business daffy lol. .. never thought we could get more corrupt that the child trafficking party of fianna fail but within 10 years of continuous power the blueshirts have out corrupted a party of child traffickers. Amazing achievement
EvelynSpring8 What about hospitality charging 10euro for a pint?
Well done Paschald 👏. The amount of price gouging taking place in Ireland is dispicable, across car hire, hotels, restaurants and pubs. They'll destroy our tourist industry. National boycott required TourismIreland Failte_Ireland CorkVFI IHFcomms VFIpubs Hertz Budget
Car Hire companies have been screwing everyone for years... insurance companies have helped too. Not sure what we can do though.
Don't worry tourists have wised up to rent their cars just North of the Border. Car rental companies in Northern Ireland need to be setting up car rental depots at major border crossings. Tourists want value for money-not to be ripped off. Have no mercy for greedy operators.
Everyone living in rip-off Ireland is at risk of going under with double digit inflation… Pascal: “don’t come asking for help, you are victim of own decisions to elect FFG “
