Vancouver declared a climate emergency in early 2019, becoming one of the first cities in the world to make such a pronouncement. The declaration was the latest in a long series of policies in Vancouver that gave the city a reputation as a leader in pushing for climate policies at the local level.
It’s not clear what happens next. There aren’t any class-action lawsuits in the works, either from Vancouver, another city, or West Coast Environmental Law, the legal advocacy group that would receive the money. Councillor Adriane Carr, who put forward the motion, says it’s a simple matter of polluter pay. She said oil companies knowingly sold a product that results in greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to climate change, which imposes high costs on cities such as Vancouver.
Stop all their fuel
They would spend a lot more per resident if Alberta cut off the oil supply to British Columbia, and they took Alberta to court.
It will be great when Alberta suspends fuel supplies to Vancouver airport. Vancouverites will be happy to hop into their EV’s and drive to Bellingham to save a few cents on cheese. David “The Fake Lawyer” Eby will be happy as criminal illegal immigrants will be traded in BC
we will take over big oil and make it work for the people during the transition to clean energy
Wow this made the war room kids cry 🤣
Say, here's how you really hurt them. Just quit using oil based product's. Remove all that asphalt from your streets, might as well look the part.
How much per person does our Federal Government give to oil and gas so executives won’t run ads against them.
Absurd and woefully naive and ignorant. Vancouver couldn't and wouldn't exist without oil.
So we have to import oil from people who hate us instead. Then rely renewables that are controlled by the Chinese. Depending on countries that hate us for energy what could go wrong? Sad legacy media keep the Trudeau climate change narrative going no matter what the consequences
Turn off the taps
Note that they’re not going after coal - even though Vancouver is the largest coal exporting port in North America. They’re going after am industry they legally can’t tax more than they have, and one that they’re not yet too dependent on.
