The Competition Commission has shut down the merger of AkzoNobel – the manufacturer of Dulux-branded paint products – with Kansai Plascon Africa Limited and Kansai Plascon East Africa, which manufactures Plascon branded paint products.

AkzoNobel primarily manufacturers decorative coatings and industrial coatings – which include automotive and specialty coatings, marine and protective coatings, wood finishes, coil coatings, and powder coatings.
has four manufacturing firms spread out across the country. Two of them are located in Gauteng’s Krugersdorp and Clayville, one in KwaZulu-Natal’s Mobeni and one in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. The firm, which also manufacturers colourants, has four other manufacturing plants in the rest of the continent: one each in Malawi and Zambia, and two in Zimbabwe.
