Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today revealed that the Ministry of Transport will be discussing with e-hailing companies to introduce the ‘ride-sharing’ concept. Through ride-sharing, lower fare rates can be enjoyed by e-hailing users.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat today, Loke said that the ride-sharing concept would allow e-hailing drivers to pick up more than one passenger. As such would directly lower the fare rate for consumers who opt for such e-hailing rides. As reported by Bernama, the Transport Minister also announced that Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and e-hailing service Kumpool are in the midst of conducting a pilot van-hailing service project between residential homes and public transport stations. Loke further elaborated that the public can use the service provided at a reasonable fare of RM1 for each use.

Replying to a question from the Member of Parliament for Sungai Buloh Datuk R. Ramanan, Loke said that MOT is ready to add this service to other stations in existing networks. Currently, the Prasarana and Kumpool pilot van-hailing service operates in the Wangsa Maju in Kuala Lumpur and Alam Megah in Selangor. Previously, we reported that Kumpool has expanded its services to Klang Valley, most notably in Kampung Tunku and Petaling Jaya.
