Dallas City Hall pictured in Dallas, Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023.If a construction company were suing you, would you routinely award it a separate, multimillion-dollar contract for another job? We’d guess that you wouldn’t, but the city of Dallas would, and that is perplexing.
The company in question, Gadberry Construction, is owned by Dustin Gadberry, who was campaign treasurer for City Council member Omar Narvaez when he previously ran for a seat the council. That relationship became controversial when Narvaez failed to disclose it andto link the Hi-Line Trail connector to the Katy Trail and the Trinity Strand Trail. The city wanted to award that contract to a rival bidder, the Fain Group.
Maybe not, but perhaps that should be a consideration. Many volunteer posts in the city call for appointees to resolve legal issues that they might have with the city before they can sit on boards and commissions. So why isn’t this a requirement of a firm doing megadollar business with the city, a provision that Mayor Eric Johnson says he would favor?
The council swiftly approved the contract 9-4, with Johnson and City Council members Blackmon, Mendelsohn and Adam McGough voting no.
Incestuous 🙄
Holy smokes. There's no checkbox on the form for that?
