At the center of the effort is a push by various levels of government to take stakes in the private companies that have long driven Chinese innovation and job creation.
China opened up to suck in the West's tech & become more or less equal to the US, now that it has most of it it'll be back to the original despotism. Except that this time around we are very dependent on it and they have much more global presence too.

Sadly, the country was lapsing fast toward the abyss of despotism. And it took only 10 years to overturn and rip apart all the progresses be made to a more civilized society after Culture Revolution. It is a great tragedy for all Chinese.
Then people wonder why there is so much anti-Asian sentiment in BC. Trudeau and the Liberal Government did not and have not protected its citizens from Chinese influence, immigration, money-laundering. Lack of instruction to foreigners about Canadian culture, democracy, rules.

Ultimately under the communist rule, everything is owned by the State or cooperatives.
