Answering questions in the National Assembly on Thursday, Ramaphosa restated his government's plans to bring more energy online and reconfirmed the country's commitment to decarbonising the electricity supply industry in the longer term. While the government formulated an energy crisis plan last July, which included a reference to the need for"emergency power" plans for a power ship were not explicitly included. Ramaphosa said that while the plan was welcomed by"all and sundry", government did not anticipate that the performance of Eskom's coal fleet would continue to drop.
