, a group on Telegram is allegedly using the central bank’s name and claiming that members who start investing with them from as little as RM500 can see returns of up to RM17,000 within three to six hours.The report added that the group is possibly part of a syndicate on Telegram. It said three other accounts were found to be using the same investment scheme tactic where each had around 100 members.
It was also reported that BNM has made a report to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for further action. Last month, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Telegram has agreed to cooperate with MCMC and police to clamp down on online fraud on its platform. He said that Malaysians have lost RM45mil due to online scams on Telegram from a period of January 2020 to May this year.
