“There is no way you would want to know your loved one is simply wrapped in plastic and tied to a board for a cremation.”
When Mr Boyle learned of the Petersons, he went to a local joinery which had a template for the coffins, and bought one to demonstrate what it looks like.“But they are charging the families $1300. They are clearly being ripped off.”Last year Rockhampton funeral director, Tony Hart, was accused of swapping a coffin by another funeral business.
"At the moment there's more regulation to cut here than what there is to operate a funeral director business, that's not good enough." Regulations stipulate funeral directors collecting bodies are not supposed to tout for business but clearly it happens. A Department of Justice and Attorney-General spokesperson said in a statement that they had conducted a competitive, two-stage process for the renewal of government undertaking contracts.
Can we also do something about the continuous nagging funeral insurance adverts on TV all day aimed at those elderly watching.?
9NewsMelb Honestly I wouldn’t care if I was buried in a cardboard box, as long as the bill reflected the cost, it shouldn’t cost so much money to die..
9NewsMelb I’ve been suspicious of them for years. My parents are elderly & I’ve taken them to many funerals: I’ve seen some dodgy ‘coffins’. Not only that — why do you have to pay for a coffin for a cremation — the coffin isn’t burnt? The industry is a criminal cartel. Has been for years!
