Communion money is an age-old tradition that goes back to the days when expensive outfits had to be purchased for the event to help cover the expense of the big day.
However, Newstalk's Kieran Cuddihy revealed that his son Sam made a unique investment using his Communion money, and purchased a calf. Speaking on Ireland AM with Muireann O'Connell and Alan Hughes, he said that his son Sam had bought the calf with the funds he received from the first receipt of the Body of Christ.Muireann asked "it's not because he bought the calf as a pet?" to which Kieran replied: "Oh no, he wants Jack over there in the kitchen to slaughter and eat him some day."
Viewers of the show were asked to text in with their own unusual Communion purchases, with one sharing that she had bought her first pony at a horse fair with the funds.
