Silence. That’s what you hear when corporate executives from the big end of town are asked publicly about the prospect of a Labor win on May 18. In private, the sounds range from low grumbles to high-pitched hysteria. Many in big business see Bill Shorten as being captive to unions.“The richer you are, the more worried you are," one very high-net-worth individual quipped. Another - this one a billionaire - suggested a Labor win would be "a disaster".
They fear retribution from a Labor government that has shown a disregard for their views on corporate tax, disdain for excessive pay and disgust at the way many have treated their customers. Overwhelmingly, the biggest single fear among business is industrial relations - they see Opposition Leader Bill Shorten as being captive to unions and are concerned about a rise in their power - and break-outs in wages and conditions.Rather than speak individually, business has relied on the cover of a pack - using lobby groups like the Business Council of Australia to promote their views.
No one cares what these lazy greedies think. Domain should stop rent seeking and start journalising again.
News reporters want us to worry what big business thinks. But in reality, reporters don't care. Just like the public does'nt care. Go Grumble in high pitched hysteria with that.😉🐨🇦🇺
Don’t know what they’re scared of. Labor don’t have the guts to do anything drastic
Big end of town doesn’t like Labor because they are scared 😱 they are going to lose rights to Super-Super that Howard reworded them for voting for him for 12years. They can put millions in their Super tax free. Biggest Super holder has 💯 millions in Super. Is that fair,No-No-No
The sad reality is that Shorten is stuck on class warfare and identity politics. He knows that 50% of taxpayers pay no net income tax and he has no regard for the top 20% of income earners that pay the majority of tax that support all of his welfare and climate policies.
So what’s new.
Most people know labor and the greens are going to cause massive division in this country.
Strange ? Yesterday I witnessed the atmosphere generated by ' Bill, the BBQ stopper.' From birth to death , a relentless regime if punitive taxes. And I'm no ' Toorak Cowboy '.
Dont let this dangerous, yes I repeat dangerous man get into the lodge Australia 😢
...because Bill will destroy them and leave their workers unemployed.
they hate the idea of a living wage n double penalty rate Corps r making billions n paying big dividends n buybacks BUT they hate paying decent wages
That's because business varies from huge self indulgent corporations with excess high executive salaries & bonuses who scream loudest to simple small businesses who can see they maybe better off under Labor.
I hate-read this because i knew this would be propagandistic anonymous hit. And it was!
Trickle down economy in bed with the liberals. Bugger the hard working Aussies struggling with the cost of living! watergate auspol
Another puff piece from a once great newspaper- as if AustralianLabor is going to wreak havoc on the economy putting workers on the unemployed scrap heap.
They need to have some backbone for the sake of the country
Greed & extracting way more than the economy can bare. has an end game. having so much poverty & working poor is never GOOD business.
Cry me a river.
