The P11-million Marikina City Bagong Sibol Market is currently under construction and will soon open in Barangay Nangka, Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said.According to the city mayor, sidewalk or ambulant vendors should be provided with decent location where they could sell their products.
“We develop places like this so that vendors can have a decent place where they can sell their products. We help them, at the same time, they help our local economy,” Teodoro said. The city government has also strictly imposed a three-strike policy sidewalk vendors to keep the city obstruction-free. Teodoro shared that the city government gives vendors an alternative by establishing a market zone where they could sell their goods. This is to discourage them from selling on city sidewalks and roads.
“Dito sa Marikina, may alternative kami na binibigay sa vendors . We adjusted to their needs kaya gumawa kami ng Marikina Public Market Zone,” Teodoro said.Teodoro earlier announced that city government has already fully complied with the Department of Interior and Local Governments order to clear roads and sidewalks of obstructions ahead of its 60-day deadline.
