Vevo has formed a new partnership with smart TV software provider Vewd, bringing Vevo's catalog of music videos to millions of smart devices.
Vewd's software enables over-the-top video -- meaning it's streamed directly over the internet, bypassing a cable box -- on nearly 50 million smart TVs and set-top boxes each year, including smart devices from Sony, Hisense, Philips and TiVo, among others. Its software operates in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific, and it has delivered more than 350 million Vewd-enabled devices to date.
Vevo will retain full editorial control of its content under the agreement, which is intended to help the company reach new global audiences. “With the tremendous scale afforded by Vewd’s far-reaching network of television partners, Vevo will have the opportunity to tap into important and growing markets, bringing some of the most sought-after content to new audiences and creating value for our artists, songwriters, labels and publishing partners," said Vevo executive vp business development and affairs & general counsel A new, unified app from Vevo will be available on Vewd-enabled smart TVs beginning in late September.
“Vevo is really taking a bold and forward-looking approach to managing and growing their smart TV reach,” said Vewd vp of content partnerships. “The platform consolidation that happened on mobile hasn’t happened on the TV, so it makes sense to utilize a scaling partner like Vewd to mitigate app management complexity and accelerate distribution through tens of millions of Vewd-enabled devices, all while helping reduce costs and increase monetization.
