NSTnation 'Uniten should have consulted Pahang govt on merger decision'

Former five-term Muadzam Shah assemblyman Datuk Seri Maznah Mazlan said since the state government had approved the 67ha of land for TNB to develop KHSAS in 2011, it was"unethical" for TNB to make the announcement without consulting the state leadership.

"The current economic scenario may be challenging, but that should not be a reason to cease operations. Uniten has been with us during the good times and now when times are bad, they decide to pull out. In fact, this is the time for Uniten to brave through the challenging times with the Muadzam Shah people," she said when contacted.

"The enrolment will increase once the economy returns on track, and the drop in students is not only in Uniten but also other private higher learning institutions in the country. Uniten has chosen the easy way out by relocating and closing the Muadzam Shah campus. They should instead conduct the reimagining initiative with a new strategy to compete with the current economy and trends," she said.

"Uniten should understand the purpose of setting up the campus which had contributed a lot to the economic development in Muadzam Shah and allowed students from Pahang to further their studies. The campus here has been a"game changer" to the town and everyone must see the campus from a bigger perspective rather than solely focusing on profits," she said.
